Claridge's Spa Soundtrack

In 2020, Syn was commissioned by music-curation client, Claridge’s, to compose a 90-minute soundtrack for the newly launched Spa at this iconic Mayfair luxury hotel. Inspired by the sound of Japan, Nick Wood composed this 90-minute sonic journey to accompany Spa treatments, taking guests on a sonic experience and telling a story through music and sound. The Spa, designed by Inge Theron, takes inspiration from East-Asian wellness elements, particularly those of Japan, and lends itself perfectly to a soundtrack from the region. The composition featured sounds from Lake Towada in Northern Japan, recorded using PlantWave technology - a pocket sized device capable of converting electrical signals from plants to music. Musical collaborators also included Kyoto-based monk, Toryo Ito, whose chanting and vocal performance features on the track. Delivered to guests in treatment rooms, this sonic experience is timed to emphasise different stages of each treatment, carefully guiding guests through their experience through sound. This unique soundtrack has now entered its fifth year of licensing, becoming a standout feature of this incredible Spa and a much-loved element for guests.
